50 µL Filtered and Non-Filtered Pipette Tips for Opentrons Flex

Puretest 50 µL tips are designed as independent compatible consumables for Opentrons Flex liquid-handling workflows. Filtered and non-filtered options support low-volume assay setup, normalization and reagent transfer, while complete racks and refill-style configurations allow laboratories to select the packaging format that fits their workflow and sustainability goals.

The clear, non-conductive polypropylene tips are supplied in 96-position automation racks with a magenta identification component corresponding to the 50 µL family. The tip, mid-plate and rack base must be treated as a qualified system because pickup height, nozzle sealing, deck registration and ejection all affect automated performance.

Important: Flex tips are not interchangeable with OT-2 tips. These independent compatible consumables must be qualified with the exact Flex pipette, nozzle layout, rack definition, protocol and labware.

Product Highlights

  • 50 µL nominal capacity: approximately 1–50 µL working-volume target.
  • Filtered and non-filtered choices: select aerosol protection or an open fluid path for the validated method.
  • Complete racks and refills: 96-tip rack assemblies or refill inserts for a confirmed base.
  • Color identification: magenta rack component helps distinguish the 50 µL family.
  • Clear polypropylene: non-conductive tips for visual confirmation of liquid movement.
  • Qualification support: evaluation samples, drawings and available quality documents.

Tip Structure and Functional Design

The 50 µL tip uses a controlled upper-cone interface, transparent shaft and molded distal orifice to support repeatable aspiration and dispense. Filtered versions incorporate a hydrophobic barrier above the normal liquid column; non-filtered versions retain an open internal air path. The correct choice depends on contamination-control needs, transfer volume and liquid class.

Flex pipettes may use single-, 8- or 96-channel nozzle layouts. Qualification should therefore verify the exact nozzle configuration, full or partial tip pickup, rack flatness, pickup force, labware clearance and ejection. Refill inserts must be evaluated in the intended base and should not be assumed compatible with unrelated racks.

Platform, Pipette and Rack Compatibility

Item Compatibility guidance What to verify
Robot Opentrons Flex Robot software and deck configuration.
Pipettes Flex 1-channel and 8-channel 1–50 µL or 5–1000 µL pipettes, plus compatible 96-channel configurations Rated pipette capacity, nozzle layout and pickup mode.
Rack / refill 96-tip complete rack or confirmed refill/base Labware definition, adapter, seating and Z offsets.
Filtered / non-filtered Both configuration types available Select and qualify as separate items.
Cross-platform use Not compatible with OT-2 pipettes Maintain separate Flex and OT-2 inventory.

Filtered, Non-Filtered and Packaging Configurations

For the 50 µL family, choose filtered tips when the method requires an aerosol barrier and non-filtered tips when an open fluid path is preferred. Complete racks provide matched lid, mid-plate and base components; refill formats reduce rigid packaging but require a confirmed reusable base.

Configuration Best suited to Supply / qualification note
50 µL filtered rack Contamination-conscious automated transfer Complete 96-tip rack; keep liquid below the filter.
50 µL filtered refill Filtered workflows with reduced packaging Confirm refill/base and supplied sterility configuration.
50 µL non-filtered rack Routine automated transfer Complete 96-tip rack.
50 µL non-filtered refill Recurring use with reduced packaging Requires confirmed base and seating.

Quality and Configuration Control

  • Controlled molding and dimensional inspection support repeatable nozzle sealing, pickup height and ejection behavior across the 96-position rack.
  • Transparent polypropylene provides direct visual confirmation of liquid movement and residual droplets; filtered versions include a hydrophobic barrier selected for the intended format.
  • Available sterile and purity-controlled configurations should be confirmed through the current quotation, specification sheet and lot documentation; do not transfer official-manufacturer claims to an unverified compatible item.
  • Lot identification, packaging integrity, dimensional drawings, material declarations and available quality documents can be supplied for the confirmed ordering configuration.
  • Sterility, purity, filter, packaging and shelf-life claims apply only when they are listed on the current quotation, specification sheet and lot documentation.

Application Guide

  • Low-volume assay setup, normalization and reagent transfer
  • Automated plate setup and sample normalization
  • PCR/qPCR or NGS preparation where the selected volume is appropriate
  • Reagent distribution, mixing and serial dilution
  • Research, biotechnology and diagnostic laboratory workflows after qualification

Recommended Qualification Workflow

  1. Confirm the platform: identify the exact robot, pipette model, channel count and installed software or protocol definition.
  2. Select the smallest suitable capacity: choose a tip whose qualified working range covers the intended transfer volume.
  3. Confirm the configuration: filtered or non-filtered, rack or refill, sterile or non-sterile, and required purity documentation.
  4. Run mechanical checks: evaluate full-rack pickup, nozzle sealing, tip height, labware clearance and clean ejection.
  5. Run liquid-handling checks: confirm aspiration, dispense, residual volume, accuracy, precision and contamination control with representative liquids and labware.
  6. Lock the approved item: record the final item code, tip configuration, rack definition and validated protocol settings before routine procurement.

Ordering Information

To receive the correct quotation, specify: Flex robot, pipette capacity, channel/nozzle configuration, 50 µL volume, filtered or non-filtered, complete rack or refill, sterility/purity requirements, required documents and annual demand. Puretest supports evaluation samples, distributor supply, recurring bulk orders and OEM/private-label programs for confirmed configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these original Opentrons Flex tips?

No. They are independent compatible consumables and require qualification on the exact Flex system and method.

Are filtered and non-filtered versions available?

Yes, subject to the confirmed item code and current quotation. Treat each configuration as a separate qualification.

Can Flex tips be used on an OT-2?

No. Flex and OT-2 tips use different mechanical and rack interfaces.

What is the difference between racks and refills?

Complete racks include the matched rack components. Refills use a tip-bearing insert for a confirmed reusable base and may not include the same lid/base packaging.

How should I qualify the tips?

Verify full or partial pickup, seal, ejection, deck registration, liquid-handling performance and contamination control with the exact robot, pipette and protocol.
