PRODUCT DETAILS

20 µL Filtered Pipette Tips Compatible with Opentrons OT-2

Puretest 20 µL filtered pipette tips are designed as an independent compatible consumable for low-volume liquid handling on Opentrons OT-2 robots equipped with current P20 GEN2 single-channel or 8-channel pipettes. The clear polypropylene tip and integrated aerosol barrier support routine molecular-biology and assay-setup workflows where both low-volume control and contamination protection matter.

The tip geometry, upper cone, distal orifice and 96-position rack work as one mechanical system. Consistent molding is therefore important not only for liquid transfer, but also for reliable multichannel pickup, repeatable nozzle sealing, deck clearance and clean tip ejection.

Important: These are independent compatible tips, not original Opentrons consumables. Instrument, rack and protocol performance must be qualified on the exact OT-2 configuration before routine or regulated use.

Product Highlights

  • 20 µL nominal capacity: intended for approximately 1–20 µL OT-2 workflows.
  • Filtered fluid path: hydrophobic barrier helps reduce aerosol transfer toward the pipette.
  • Clear polypropylene: non-conductive construction supports direct visual inspection of aspiration and dispense.
  • 96-position automation rack: compatible rack format for OT-2 deck workflows, subject to qualification.
  • P20 workflow fit: designed for OT-2 P20 GEN2 1-channel and 8-channel pipettes.
  • Documentation support: samples, drawings and available quality documents for distributor or laboratory qualification.

Tip Structure and Functional Design

At low microliter volumes, small variations in tip-cone seal, internal taper or orifice geometry can create proportionally large transfer errors. The rigid polypropylene body is designed to maintain a stable seal while the narrow distal section supports controlled aspiration and dispense. The filter is positioned above the normal working liquid column and should not be intentionally wetted.

Because the OT-2 8-channel pipette picks up an entire row simultaneously, rack flatness and tip-height consistency are especially important. Qualification should include all eight channels, partial and full rack conditions, representative source/destination labware and the liquid classes used in the final protocol.

Technical Specifications and Selection Notes

Parameter Specification Selection note
Nominal tip capacity 20 µL Use the smallest tip that covers the required transfer volume.
Recommended working range Approximately 1–20 µL Final limits depend on the exact pipette, liquid class and method validation.
Tip material Clear, non-conductive polypropylene Not intended for capacitive liquid-level sensing.
Barrier Hydrophobic aerosol filter Do not over-aspirate or wet the filter.
Rack format 96 positions, ANSI/SLAS footprint Confirm rack definition, deck slot and pickup height.
Primary pipettes OT-2 P20 GEN2, 1-channel and 8-channel GEN1 or legacy use requires separate physical and method qualification.
Autoclaving Not recommended Use the supplied condition and documented storage instructions.

Filtered, Non-Filtered and Packaging Configurations

This page covers the 20 µL filtered configuration. For protocols that do not require an aerosol barrier, use the separate 20 µL non-filtered rack/refill page. Filtered tips are normally supplied as complete racks; confirm the exact packaging and sterility status on the quotation.

Configuration Best suited to Supply / qualification note
20 µL filtered rack PCR/qPCR setup, NGS, diagnostic sample preparation and contamination-sensitive transfers 96 tips per rack; confirm sterile/purity documentation.
20 µL non-filtered rack/refill Routine reagent transfer where aerosol protection is not required Available on the separate non-filtered product page.

Quality and Configuration Control

  • Controlled molding and dimensional inspection support repeatable nozzle sealing, pickup height and ejection behavior across the 96-position rack.
  • Transparent polypropylene provides direct visual confirmation of liquid movement and residual droplets; filtered versions include a hydrophobic barrier selected for the intended format.
  • The configured product can be supplied with stated purity and sterilization information when confirmed in the current specification and lot documentation.
  • Lot identification, packaging integrity, dimensional drawings, material declarations and available quality documents can be supplied for the confirmed ordering configuration.
  • Sterility, purity, filter, packaging and shelf-life claims apply only when they are listed on the current quotation, specification sheet and lot documentation.

Application Guide

  • PCR and qPCR master-mix or sample setup
  • NGS library preparation and genomic workflows
  • Low-volume reagent normalization and plate setup
  • Cell-based assay reagent addition
  • Routine research and diagnostic laboratory automation after method qualification

Recommended Qualification Workflow

  1. Confirm the platform: identify the exact robot, pipette model, channel count and installed software or protocol definition.
  2. Select the smallest suitable capacity: choose a tip whose qualified working range covers the intended transfer volume.
  3. Confirm the configuration: filtered or non-filtered, rack or refill, sterile or non-sterile, and required purity documentation.
  4. Run mechanical checks: evaluate full-rack pickup, nozzle sealing, tip height, labware clearance and clean ejection.
  5. Run liquid-handling checks: confirm aspiration, dispense, residual volume, accuracy, precision and contamination control with representative liquids and labware.
  6. Lock the approved item: record the final item code, tip configuration, rack definition and validated protocol settings before routine procurement.

Ordering Information

To receive the correct quotation, specify: OT-2 robot generation, P20 pipette model and channel count, 20 µL filtered configuration, rack quantity, sterility/purity requirements, required documents and destination market. Puretest supports evaluation samples, distributor supply, recurring bulk orders and OEM/private-label programs for confirmed configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these original Opentrons tips?

No. They are independent compatible consumables and must be qualified on the exact OT-2 system and protocol.

What volume range should I evaluate?

Use 1–20 µL as the initial selection range, then verify accuracy and precision at the minimum, typical and maximum volumes used in your method.

Can the filter be wetted?

No. Over-aspiration into the filter can reduce recovery and may invalidate the transfer.

Are OT-2 and Flex tips interchangeable?

No. The two platforms use different tip and rack interfaces and should be treated as separate consumable families.

Can you provide samples and documents?

Yes. Provide the instrument, pipette and protocol details so the correct configuration and available documents can be matched.

Request Samples, Documents or a Quotation

Send your robot model, pipette model, channel count, target volume, filtered/non-filtered preference, rack/refill preference, sterility requirement and estimated annual demand. We will match the most appropriate configuration and provide available qualification documents.
